Home / About / Teen Advisors / 2017-2018 / Jada Young Jada Young Share Page Hi! My name is Jada Young, and I am a rising sophomore at Keystone School in San Antonio, Texas. I first heard about Girl Up while researching summer abroad programs and came across the Girl Up WiSci STEAM Camp. As I learned about the camp, the message of advocacy for girls promoted by Girl Up and the goals of WiSci to advance STEAM education really spoke to me because I am an avid member of both the San Antonio Youth Advocacy Council and the San Antonio Junior Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers. Through NSBE, I started a Girl Up Chapter in San Antonio. Being only fourteen-years-old, I successfully advocate for young girls in San Antonio, encourage them to seek higher education, and promote their mental and physical wellness. I have attended advocacy training and met with U.S. Congressman Joaquin Castro to discuss the importance of sex education in the public school system. I have also attended Advocacy Day at the Texas State Capitol and met with my State Representative to seek his support on budget items related to teen and women’s health. I have been a member of NSBE where I have participated in math, science, and robotics competitions since elementary school. I am passionate about the arts including singing, spoken word performances, acting, and writing poetry. I’ve been a competitive swimmer since age six. I love to sing. I am Vice-President of Dance Club, Co-founder of Cheer Club, and Parliamentarian of NSBE. I have a dog named Jackson. I can’t wait to meet the other 2017-2018 Teen Advisors and advance the goals of Girl Up through our unique perspectives. My excitement for being a Teen Advisor is reflected in excerpts of a poem that I wrote for Girl Up: The Girl Up community is here to prove That the women of the world never lose Despite the obstacles that they face Women handle everything with exceeding grace. Recruiting girls around the globe To make the struggles of girls known To join Girl Up would be an an honor. To join an eternal sisterhood: daughter to daughter.
