Felicia Xiong

Hi! My name is Felicia Xiong and I am a rising senior at Millard North High School in Omaha, Nebraska.

I am extremely grateful to get to serve as a Teen Advisor. I first found out about Girl Up through a friend a year ago, and I was immediately enthralled because it fosters female leaders around the world and encourages young girls to be outspoken and active in their communities. I currently serve as a state officer for the Girl Up Nebraska Coalition. I identify as a feminist because women have historically been degraded and suppressed for years. It takes fearless, forthright people to make a difference in the world and give girls opportunities. Even if a voice is ignored by an authority, that voice can still start a movement and inspire change in the world. Speaking out about issues is the only way the archaic systems of patriarchy and oppression can be broken. My role models are Michelle Obama and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Aside from Girl Up, I compete on my school’s debate team and write for the school newspaper. Outside of school, I am on Omaha Teen Council where I advocate for social justice and healthcare services for women while also serving as a sexual health educator for my peers. I am so excited to serve as a Girl Up Teen Advisor for the 2019-2020 term, so I can express my advocacy while also forming a bond with fellow Teen Advisors.
