Home / Impact / Stories / Notre Dame Girl Up… Notre Dame Girl Up Club Share Page The Girl Up Club at Notre Dame School in New York, NY, has been with the campaign from the very beginning! Having launched in 2011 under the leadership of Teen Advisor Ines Renique, Notre Dame got right to work coming up with fun ways to fundraise. From school dress down days to classroom coin wars, the club piqued the interest of the entire student body and elicited support from the whole school. All their hard work culminated in a spring fashion show that raised $688. In fact, this first fashion show foray inspired Notre Dame Girl Up members to make the show bigger and better every year by recruiting support from businesses like JCPenney and student groups like their school’s dance troupe. The Notre Dame Club was also instrumental in organizing the first Girl Up Club Coalition. This New York Coalition brings clubs together from all five boroughs in New York to undertake large-scale projects and support each other’s school activities. For example, Notre Dame aided the Hewitt School Club in managing an electronic waste recycling campaign to raise funds for Girl Up. Notre Dame also co-hosted a Girl Rising screening open to all Girl Up Clubs. Most recently, club members organized a fundraising to support SchoolCycle, a Girl Up initiative to provide bicycles to girls in Malawi so that they can get to school. Together, they raised $375, enough to send three bikes! Way to go, Notre Dame!
