Day 3

Here we are on my last day in Guatemala. Wake up time: 6:15 am (not a morning person, but gotta do it). Barely enough time for a quick breakfast and ughhhhh…got a lot to pack.

We visited a program called “Opening Opportunities” in Chiuxilon. The girls there told me about their lives. Many of them help their families by working in the fields. The youngest girls sang a beautiful song that I will always remember.

“Opening Opportunities” is an after school program that focuses on empowering Mayan girls. A few girls go through intensive training for a year to become leaders. Then they teach other girls in the after school program. They  are working together to become strong girls.

These are the kinds of programs you support when you donate and tell your friends about Girl Up. These girls have beautiful spirits & minds, and they deserve a better future.

Remember – we are strong, but together we are so much stronger!
