(Marlborough Club members and event attendees.)
Marlborough's Girl Up Club hosted its very first fundraiser last Sunday, February 5, 2012.
It's fair to say that it was a success on all accounts! The 50 people who attended were enthusiastic, interested, and active.
Not only were there lovely finger sandwiches, desserts, and tea, but there were also activities.
For example, in addition to the jerry can activity that demonstrates the weight girls in developing countries have to carry in order to bring water to their families, there was a letter-writing table giving everyone the opportunity to write to a girl and inspire her.
In addition, there were two speakers, including Girl Up Campaign Associate Julie Willig, who joined us all the way from Washington D.C., and Annie Gersh ('16), one of 16 national Girl Up Teen Advisors.
This Mother-Daughter Afternoon Tea Party struck the perfect balance — ranging between interesting and informative to positive, inspiring, and fun! Thanks to everyone who came, and we hope to see even more female activists at events to come!
