Levi's And Girl Up: A Perfect Fit

It was pure “girl power” at the Levi Strauss & Co. global headquarters this past weekend.

We were delighted to welcome the United Nations Foundation’s Girl Up Unite for Girls tour to our headquarters. I don’t think we’d ever had so many fabulous young women here at once!

We gathered to learn about the lives of girls in developing countries. Why? Levi Strauss & Co. cares about those girls and their families, and we have a shared desire to make a difference… to unite to change the world.

Here at Levi Strauss & Co., we’re committed to creating a world where women and girls can thrive. We support the empowerment of women through our community engagement, public policy initiatives and products.

Since the beginning, Levi Strauss & Co. has partnered with women and organizations (such as the UN Foundation’s Girl Up and the Global Fund for Women) around the world to advance equality, civil rights and social justice. And, we have contributed nearly $300 million to improve the lives of women and their families worldwide.

This is an especially important issue to us, since women make up three-quarters of the global garment workforce and more than two-thirds of the factory workers in our supply chain.

Another important way we can all support the empowerment of girls and women is to appreciate them for who they are — wonderful, beautiful and strong people who can make a difference.

That’s why we were very excited to give all Girl Up attendees a chance to get a custom fitting for our Levi’s® Curve ID jeans. And for everyone who got fitted, we donated a "High 501," or $5.01 to Girl Up! This was our own take on the Girl Up “High Five” – and the contribution will help provide girls in developing countries with such basic needs as access to school supplies, clean water, life-saving health services, safety from violence and more.

Girl Up in San Francisco was an incredible experience. We were honored to host this event at our headquarters and look forward to continuing to partner with Girl Up to mobilize teen girls to become the next generation of global leaders.
