As the holiday season approaches, all of us here at Girl Up are realizing how many great things we have in our lives. So in celebration of the American holiday Thanksgiving, we’ve all come up with a list of things we’re thankful for.
This is the first blog in our “I am thankful for…” series for 2011. Keep checking in throughout the week to find out what everyone else here at Girl Up is thankful for!

My 5 year old daughter, Dylan because she has a beautiful spirit and a great sense of humor that keeps me smiling every day.
My supportive family because without them I wouldn’t be able travel and dedicate my time and passion to directing Girl Up.
My job at the United Nations Foundation because Girl Up gives me the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing teen girls in America to help improve the lives of girls in developing countries.

Girl Up Deputy Director, Melissa Hillebrenner
My new job with Girl Up! I joined the campaign 10 weeks ago and I'm so grateful everyday that I get to work with an amazing team here at UN Foundation and that I get to work for all of you every day and all of our sisters in Malawi, Liberia, Ethiopia and Guatemala!
To be healthy and walking again! I recently had foot surgery and spent 6 weeks on crutches and this crazy knee scooter contraption — all during my first six weeks at a new job and in a new city — I am very happy to mobile again and thankful that my situation was temporary — now I just can't wait for my toe to start working again!
My family and friends in my life that have supported me in more ways than they will ever know, throughout my whole life, but also in the last few months as I've dealt with an injury, a cross-country move and an exciting new job! I don't know how I would have done it without them.
Keep visiting GirlUp.org throughout the week to hear what other people at Girl Up are thankful for and share on our Facebook page what you are thankful for this year!
