Girl Up Visits Denver

Girl Up visited the Girls Athletic Leadership School (GALS) in Denver yesterday to kick off our partnership with the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools! Students from the first all-girls public school in Colorado had the opportunity to learn about the issues facing girls all around the world – girls with the same dreams and ambitions to be doctors, lawyers and even the president one day, but without the same opportunities. After they walked the pink carpet into their classroom and watched our “Connecting the Dots” video, these young women from GALS immediately understood how important it is for every girl, no matter where she is born, to have an equal opportunity.

In the classroom, students got to experience what it might be like for a girl in Ethiopia who has to walk an average of six hours a day obtaining water for her family and village by carrying (heavy!) cans filled with water. They also wrote letters to girls in Liberia with inspiring messages such as, “You girls are the strongest I know. You’re awesome!”

Want to see a clip from the classroom activities? Check us out on NBC 9! A huge thank you to GALS for hosting Girl Up!

You also might have seen us at the Town Center mall in Aurora, Colorado, on Sunday for our Girlafesto Gathering, where we mingled with shoppers and captured new cover girls for Girl Up magazine. Girls and boys alike learned how easy it is to support girls around the world with a “High Five” to Girl Up!

Missed us in Denver? Don’t worry! We’re back in December for our Unite for Girls Tour stop. Not in Denver? No worries! Check back with us as we visit more cities around the country to unite girls to change the world!
