Wonder what it’s like to explore nearly every corner of the world for your job? Just ask Lisa Ling.
A veteran journalist, Ling is the host of National Geographic’s documentary series Explorer, which takes viewers to more than 120 countries to unravel stories of science, culture, and nature. (Imagine how full Ling’s passport must be!) Her travel itinerary is a mix of international and domestic, as she also balances her show on Nat Geo with reporting for Our America, a series on the Oprah Winfrey Network that takes viewers into their own backyards to better understand American subcultures. Ling also serves as a contributor to the ABC News show Nightline. No matter the show, she always aims to bring to light issues normally ignored under the media spotlight.
When not mapping out stories for television, Ling serves as journalist for ivolunteer.org, a Tumblr-style web site that makes people aware of volunteering opportunities. Its mission is to “to find projects that are easy, fun and most importantly, give back.” This fab female sure knows how to balance adventure with connecting people through stories and volunteerism.
