Delivering The End Child Marriage Petition and Signatures

Today was a big day for Girl Up. Three of the teen advisors including Erica, Bridget, and I along with several guests headed over to the White House to deliver the End Child Marriage petition with over 16,000 signatures.

Our group of girls totaled up to seven to reflect the statistic of 1 in 7 girls in developing countries will be married by the age of 15. This End Child Marriage campaign was started in April to focus more specifically on stopping child marriage in developing countries such as Ethiopia and Malawi and to eventually present this extreme problem to the White House to call for action!

As part of the campaign, Girl Up sent out a petition to be delivered to the White House with the 16,000+ signatures to show how much the whole nation, including girls and boys, cares and wants child marriage to end! Girl Up fans, supporters and friends worked together through Internet and word of mouth to get the petition signed and what a fantastic job everyone did to reach over our previous goal of 15,000 signatures. Way to go!

Teen Advisor Erica also requested a follow up meeting with the White House to talk about and come up with some “concrete solutions” to end this crisis that millions of girls facing across the globe right now!   We are looking forward to that and will share more details as soon as we have them.
