Unite for Girls Tour: D.C.

Pep Rally: January 2011

In January 2011, Girl Up completed the first leg of the Unite for Girls Tour in Washington, D.C., our own backyard! Hundreds of girls and boys participated in a Pep Rally at THEARC, home to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington. Girl Up Champions, fashion photographer and author, Nigel Barker; as well as WNBA All-Star player, Alana Beard; made special appearances with Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Estelle! As if that wasn’t enough excitement, we were all treated to an amazing performance by the Camp Fire USA Patuxent Area Council and Bishop McNamara High School dancers.

This pep rally was super-special because it was also the first time the Girl Up Teen Advisors met in person! Of course they bonded instantly, but they also had the chance to speak at the rally, be interviewed by press and of course recite the GIRLAFESTO in support of girls around the world!

Be sure to look for the Unite for Girls Tour in your city during 2011! Until then, check out our blogs, photos, and videos below from Unite for Girls Tour D.C.
