My name is Martha Zuniga. I was born and raised in Chicago, Ill. I have a golden retriever named Champ. I am currently a senior attending Chicago Tech Academy High School, and I'm 17 years old.
My school is all about leadership and it has been engrained in me since I started there how important it is to let your voice shine. I am currently President of the Young Women's Leadership Society club at my school. One of the most memorable events was when we went to see the film "Miss Represented."
It dealt with all of the negativity and double standards that women face every day. This helped enrich our perspectives on how society imposes certain views on women.
Aside from going to events, we often start meetings by talking about topics like what we want to pursue in the future. My dream is to become a singer, but I've never had a clue of what kind of job I wanted to have.
It wasn't until my school organized a trip to D.C that I realized that I could make a career out of helping better the world around me.
I am now looking forward to making my mark on this earth by becoming a Girl Up Teen Advisor. I want to speak for the girls who dare not to. I want to make people care about the issues girls face in developing countries, and I will.
This is a major step towards my goal of joining the Peace Corps when I get older. In the future I will open an animal shelter for dogs and run my own cosmetic or fashion line. I plan to donate 5% of the proceeds to those in need.
But my ultimate aspiration in life is to make a huge impact on this planet before my time is up. I don't want to leave this earth knowing that all I did was breathe air. I want to leave with the satisfaction of touching peoples' lives.
