Hello! My name is Itzel Delgado, I am 17 years old and live in New York City.

I am currently a senior at an girls high school in East Harlem called The Young Women's Leadership School.

As you may already know, I was a teen advisor for the class of 2010-2011 but since I have been thrilled and lucky enough to work with Girl Up, I will do so for another year.

My first year as a Teen Advisor was a life changing experience!

I had the opportunity to attend The Year of the Youth Culmination Event at the United Nations, The Glamour Awards, as well as the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day at the White House.

My school and community have also become supporters of Girl Up through their donations and contributions at my own events.

This past year I was able to host multiple fundraisers as well as raising awareness through bake sales and movie screenings.

In May, I screened the movie, Yesterday, which dealt with the hardships of an HIV positive mother and her seven year old daughter in Africa.

As students from my school watched the movie I sold snacks in the back of the room. The Social Justice Club at my school also became involved by attending Girl Up events in the city.

Aside from working with Girl Up, I am also a delegate at the Model United Nations tri-state and international conferences throughout the year.

As my second year working with Girl Up kicks off, I am hoping to be an advisor to the current teen advisors.

I have gained an immense amount of experience just by working with this organization for a year and cannot wait to help the new teen advisors become comfortable with their new position.
